YEREVAN, July 4. /ARKA/. Armenia's supermarkets are set to introduce new labeling standards for dairy and meat products to provide clearer information to consumers as the country’s government approved amendments to the Law on Trade and Services and the Code of Administrative Offenses on Thursday./pp

Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan explained the new regulations, stating that dairy products will be color-coded based on their ingredients. Sour cream made from real milk will have green labels, while those made from milk fat substitutes will have orange labels. This initiative aims to prevent consumer confusion and ensure transparency about the origins of food products./pp

In addition to the dairy labeling, meat products will feature QR codes, allowing consumers to access detailed information about the products. By scanning the QR codes, shoppers will be able to determine whether the meat was imported or produced locally in Armenia, as well as verify its quality and expiration dates./pp

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that these changes still require discussion and approval by the National Assembly. He assured that the public would be kept informed throughout the legislative process./pp

This initiative needs to be communicated to the private sector and businesses immediately so they can prepare accordingly, Pashinyan said. He acknowledged that while the market often self-regulates, the government has a role in facilitating these improvements./pp

There are currently limited options for products made from real milk on the market. Thanks to government efforts, products made exclusively from milk have become available. We need to continue this progress so consumers are fully informed about what they are purchasing and its cost, Pashinyan concluded./p br
