YEREVAN, June 14. /ARKA/. A formula of compensation payments for people affected by the recent flood in northeastern Armenia is required to speed up the compensation process, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Friday./pp
Pashinyan’s suggestion was to outline several zones in the flooded area and to apply a universal approach when calculating the compensations instead of evaluating damages to each building./pp “We need to design a formula and add floor space to this formula. So, each building needs to have a zone coefficient that will affect the grand total,” he said./pp
Armenia’s Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan noted that the flood is not completely over, which prevents the authorities from accurately assessing the damages./pp “The water needs to be completely gone,” he said, predicting that an early picture is expected not earlier than in about a week’s time./pp
Heavy rains flooded Armenia’s northeastern provinces Lori and Tavush on 25 and 26 May, causing the Debed, Aghstev, and Tashir rivers to overflow their banks. As a result, portions of the railway and the freeway connecting Armenia with Georgia were destroyed. So far, the death toll stands at 4, and 443 individuals have been evacuated from the flooded area. A total of 300 million drams has been allocated for recovery efforts./p
