A husband “hired out” his wife for sex with 2 742 different men over four years, a court heard on Thursday.

The 54-year-old made more than £5 000 a month from his suburban prostitution racket.

While his 46-year-old wife dealt with visitors at their home in Meaux, near Paris, he would sit outside in the car with their five-year-old child.

Prosecutors said the man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, exercised a “psychological power” over his spouse of ten years.

Prostitution is legal in France, but he allegedly broke soliciting laws by using four internet sites and text messages to organise clients.

He now faces a criminal trial.
