Durban - Police are still searching for the killers who gunned down the Richmond Municipality head of security.

No arrests have yet been made, but police said they were following every lead to track down the gang of gunmen.

Mthulisi Andrew Ngcobo, 41, was shot dead on Friday night after he parked his car at his home at Ndaleni Slahla and went to close the gate.

According to police, he was shot several times by unknown gunmen who had allegedly lain in wait for him.

Ngcobo, the brother of Richmond’s deputy mayor, Philile Ngcobo, was employed by the municipality since 2001, first as a security officer and later promoted to senior supervisor of security.

He was a well-known activist and member of the regional executive committee of the MK Military Veterans Association.

His brother, Phumze Ngcobo, who was in the house at the time of the incident, said he heard the shots from his room and ran outside to find his brother’s body lying near the gate.

A memorial service for Ngcobo will be held on Thursday at the Agricultural Hall in Richmond and his funeral will be held on Saturday.

Richmond police have urged anyone with information that can lead to the arrests of the killers to call 033 212 9456.
