Prime minister to head campaign for constitutional reforms
YEREVAN, October 20. / ARKA /. Prime minister Hovik Abrahamyan will be heading the campaign of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia for a package of constitutional reforms calling for transition from so-called semi-presidential form of governance to parliamentary republic. The package will put to a national referendum on December 6.
Vice-speaker of parliament Eduard Sharmazanov told reporters that president Serzh Sargsyan, head of the Republican Party of Armenia, asked Abrahamyan to form and lead a corresponding headquarters.
He added that the Republican Party of Armenia will cooperate on this issue with other political forces that support the reform.
"It is important to us that the process of constitutional reforms meet all international standards", Sharmazanov said. -0-
