Arsenal defender Mertesacker: Premier League can bankroll Bundesliga finances

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker says the Premier League can bankroll the Bundesliga's future.

The Premier League outspent the German top flight by a staggering £575million during the previous transfer window, and the former Germany international believes this will only benefit his national league.

He told Kicker: "Many clubs in England are under pressure, they have to spend money.

“Looking at the circumstance, a mediocre team like Stoke City spent almost 10 million euros on a mediocre striker (Joselu) from Hannover 96.

“Then this is well a lucrative deal for a club from Bundesliga."
