Some 35 percent of Armenians trust Russia-made goods
YEREVAN, October 19. / ARKA /. According to the findings of Integration Barometer, a yearly research conducted by the Eurasian Development Bank's (EDB) Centre for Integration Studies, almost one third of Armenia’s population trust products imported from Russia.
In 2015, over 11,000 people from nine CIS region countries - Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, and Ukraine - took part in the poll. The study shows that 35% of respondents in Armenia prefer Russia-made goods. It was followed by Germany (25%) and the US (18%).
According to the study, Armenians also trust products imported from the CIS countries, however, the level of their trust in CIS-made products, according to the study, decreased to 36% from 50% in the previous study.
At the same time, 33% of Armenians trust goods from the EU and 34% trust goods made in other countries.
The highest level of trust in CIS-made goods was in Tajikistan (69%) and Kazakhstan (67%), and the lowest in Russia (23%) and Ukraine (23%). EU-made goods were most popular in Georgia (51%), Belarus (46%) and Ukraine (46%), and the least popular in Kyrgyzstan (16%).
The study says the trust of residents of Armenia in local products grew from 18% in 2014 to 30% in 2015. Domestically-made products are most popular in Moldova, Russia, Belarus and Ukraine and the least popular in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
According to Armenia’s National Statistical Service, the country’s foreign trade with the CIS countries in the first 8 months of 2015 declined by 14.7% to about $882.5 million (29% of the total foreign trade). Trade with Russia decreased by 12.5% to $753.6 million. Imports of Russian goods to Armenia during the reporting period dropped by 7.77% to $624.5 million. -0-
