Operation Fiela nets 24 in North West
Operation Fiela in the Mahikeng and Pudimoe policing clusters in North West resulted in 24 arrests for various offences.
|||Potchefstroom – Operation Fiela in the Mahikeng and Pudimoe policing clusters in North West on Thursday and Friday resulted in 24 arrests for various offences, police said on Sunday.
“A total of 21 suspects were arrested in the operation conducted in the Mahikeng cluster, while three were apprehended in the Pudimoe cluster,” spokesman Captain Paul Ramaloko said in a statement.
Out of the 24 suspects, seven were held for assault with intend to do grievous bodily harm and common assault, three for intimidation, four for drug-related crimes, three for theft and malicious damage to property, two for contravention of a protection order, two for child neglect, two for burglary, and one for possession of suspected stolen property, he said.
Most of the suspects were arrested in the policing areas of Mmabatho and Mahikeng. The police seized dagga during in the operation in Pudimoe cluster where eight premises, one vehicle, and 12 people were also searched.
The suspects were expected to appear in the Mmabatho, Itsoseng, and Taung magistrate’s courts on Monday on various charges.
“The police, together with other law enforcement role players, will continue with the operations to maintain stability and ensure that communities are and feel safe particularly during this period of the year,” Ramaloko said.
