Cape Town – Police on Wednesday said they had confiscated a whopping R2.3 million worth of dagga and arrested a 59-year-old male suspect after reacting to a tip-off in Nyanga, Cape Town.

The South African Police Service’s provincial spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said that members attached to the Crimes and Gangsterism Unit were conducting crime prevention operations in Nyanga on Tuesday when the bust occurred.

“They received information from the public of a man selling dagga in Mjodo Street, Nyanga,” said Van Wyk.

Reacting to the tip-off, police proceeded to the suspect’s premises where they discovered four plastic containers with compressed dagga, as well as 22 parcels of dagaa, 53 bankies, and 15 kilograms of loose compressed dagga. This totalled an estimated value of R2.3 million.

The 59-year-old suspect was promptly arrested and will appear in the Philippi Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
