YEREVAN, October 14. /ARKA/. New standards of marking and certification of local products on the Eurasian Economic Union’s space come into force on January 1, 2016, Lili Makhudyan, chief of the Armenian economy ministry’s metrology and technical regulation division, told journalists on Tuesday.

“As it is known, Armenia joined the Eurasian Economic Union on January 2, 2015, and it was specified that the union’s technical regulations will operate along with the national law,” she said.  “And on January 1, 2016, new marking and certification standards come into effect. It is not a secret that any exported product must meet an importer country's requirements.”Makhudyan said that from January 1, 2018, all the producers and importers of the Eurasian Economic Union countries ought to comply with the union's regulations.

She warned that from January 2, 2016, the national law will not be applied to some local foods. It means that producers and importers must certify products or declare them on the national technical regulations.

«Otherwise, it will be impossible to sell these products even in Armenia's territory,» Makhudyan said. «If producers have products which don't meet EEU standards, they must be declared and sold only before January 1, 2018, and after this date products must be in conformity with EEU regulations.»

Yenok Azaryan, director of the National Institute of Standards, on his side, said that the institute now has more than 30,000 standardization documents that include either national or international (ISO, ITU, IEC), European (EN) and interstate standards and technical regulations. He said that harmonization of national and EEU standards and formation of a common customs zone are the most pressing objectives now.

Azaryan stressed that to support domestic producers the institute recently signed a cooperation agreement with Russia's Rosstandart and the Union of Manufacturers and Entrepreneurs, and this will make it possible to inform domestic producers about all the technical documents being discussed in the Eurassian Economic Union. ---0----
