U.S. Embassy in Armenia prohibits its employees and their families from visiting five regions bordering Azerbaijan
YEREVAN, September 23, /ARKA/. The U.S. Embassy in Armenia urged its employees to exercise increased caution in Armenia due to armed conflict with Azerbaijan, saying that some areas have increased risk.
'Following the September 13-14 military actions on the Armenian side of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border U.S. Embassy employees and their families are prohibited from any non-essential travel to the following locations-
Taush region along the M4 highway north of Ijevan and all areas eastward,
Gegharkunik region east of Lake Sevan,
Gegharkunik region south of Lake Sevan and east of the M10 highway,
Yeraskh village in Ararat region,
Vayots Dzor region, east of Yeghegnadzor,
Syunik region.
Travel to Nagorno-Karabakh continues to be prohibited.
U.S. citizens are advised to take the following actions;
Avoid the area,
Be aware of their surroundings.
Monitor local media for updates,
Follow the Embassy on Facebook and Twitter.
Review the Country Security Report for Armenia,
Prepare a contingency plan for emergency situations.
On September 13, Azerbaijan launched an unprovoked and unjustified military aggression against Armenia, using heavy artillery, multiple rocket launchers and combat UAVs and shelling 36 residential areas and communities. The Azerbaijani attack deliberately targeted civilian population and vital civilian infrastructures.'
As a result of the aggression, the number of victims and missing persons at the moment exceeded 207, among them 3 civilians were killed and 2 civilians are missing. 293 servicemen and 8 civilians were wounded, at least 20 servicemen were captured. -0-
