Azerbaijani aggression, U.S. aid, Armenian prisoners of war and the status of Artsakh: what the opposition discussed with Pelosi
YEREVAN, September 19. /ARKA/. One of Armenian opposition leaders, former deputy speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Ishkhan Saghatelyan, revealed the U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and representatives of the opposition spoke about at a closed meeting on September 18.
"We talked about Azerbaijani aggression. The US support for Baku is unacceptable for us. I mean the military and political support. Because of that, Azerbaijan is becoming even more unbridled and brazen and continues its aggression against the Republic of Armenia," Saghatelyan said.
He said that the 907th amendment of the "Freedom Support Act" (prohibiting military assistance to Azerbaijan) and the need to stop the assistance next year were discussed.
"We talked about prisoners of war, the situation with democracy in Armenia, the status of Artsakh. All the problems we raised were touched upon during the closed meeting," Saghatelyan said.
According to him, the U.S. delegation promised to discuss these issues and not limit itself to statements.
The delegation led by Pelosi is in Armenia on a three-day visit. The Speaker visited the Armenian Genocide Victims' Memorial Complex, held meetings with the Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonian, gave a press conference, spoke at the Gafesjian Art Center, met with the parliamentary opposition, and had a meeting with the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan. She condemned Azerbaijan's aggression against Armenia and pledged U.S. support. -0-
