Papikyan presented to Pelosi the situation created by Azerbaijan's aggression against Armenia

YEREVAN, September 19./ARKA/. Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan met on Sunday with a delegation led by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who arrived in Armenia on an official visit, the press service of the Armenian Defense Ministry reported.

It said Papikyan thanked Pelosi for responding quickly to the situation, visiting the region and voicing targeted assessments of Azerbaijan's large-scale military aggression against the sovereign territory of Armenia on September 13.

Papikyan spoke about the situation created as a result of that Azerbaijan aggression. Pelosi presented the U.S. position on the situation. During the meeting a number of issues related to the cooperation between the two countries were also discussed.

Around midnight on September 13, the armed forces of Azerbaijan launched a large-scale attack in the southern and southeastern directions of the Republic of Armenia, encroaching on the territorial integrity of Armenia.

The aggression was carried out with the use of artillery, mortars and UAVs, including not only in the Armenia-Azerbaijan bordering area, but also in the areas of Sotk, Vardenis, Goris, Kapan, Artanish and Ishkhanasar settlements and their civilian infrastructure of Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor and Syunik regions.

On September 14, Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to cease fire on the border as of 8 p.m. Secretary of Armenia’s Security Council Armen Grigoryan said in an interview with the Public Television of Armenia. that the ceasefire was brokered by Armenia's international partners. According to Prime Minister Pashinyan, 135 Armenian soldiers were killed in clashes with Azerbaijani troops. Azerbaijan said it lost 75 soldiers.-0-
