Another temperature record to be broken in Yerevan; then the heatwave will recede
YEREVAN, September 2. /ARKA/. Due to the penetration of hot tropical airwaves from Iraq into Armenia the daytime temperatures in the Ararat Valley, in lower parts of Aragatsotn and Vayots Dzor provinces as well as in the capital Yerevan will soar to 38-40 degrees Celsius on September 1-4.
The National Weather Service warns that this weather is a huge risk factor when it comes to potential wildfires in the lower parts of the country and valleys.
Rains and thunderstorms are expected in some regions after noon on September 5-6. The southwestern winds will be blowing with gusts of 2-5 meters per second. Their speed may reach 15-18 meters per second during the thunderstorms
Early next week, the temperature will drop by 6-8 degrees. The highest temperatures are expected on September 2-4 in Ararat and Armavir regions, as well as in the lower parts s of Vayots Dzor and in Syunik valleys, where it will reach 40 degrees Celsius.
The temperature in Yerevan on Friday afternoon will reach 37-39 degrees. The highest temperature on that day -37.7 degrees Celsius- was registered in 2006. The temperature will remain unchanged in the capital this weekend. On Monday the heat will start to recede and the temperature will drop to 30-32 degrees by Tuesday. -0-
