Trying to get a handle on just what the Coens are going to deliver with "Hail, Caesar!" has been tricky. Alex Karpovsky has said it's "wacky and zany," while the film's composer and longtime collaborator Carter Burwell was a bit more reserved.

"It's a musical comedy that takes place on a Hollywood backlot, so you pass through all these pictures that are in production there," he said in the spring. "I wouldn't actually call it a 'musical comedy'....I'm quite certain it's actually going to be quite the opposite. It's going to be rather serious, and it's about faith. It's not about the music."
