Government changes conditions for subsidizing winter crops sowing

YEREVAN, August 11. /ARKA/. The Armenian government will revise its program designed for subsidizing cultivation of winter crops and instead of covering part of the cost of seeds it will provide money to farmers for every hectare of land sown with winter crops, Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan said at a governmental session today.

He said the changes are based on a successful experience of Chambarak border community in Gegharkunik region.

He said also the government will subsidize cultivation of winter crops to increase the area of winter crops with the help of communities and to improve the food security of the country.

The minister specified that now the subsidy for each hectare of land sown with winter crops will be 120,000 drams provided that certified seeds are planted and 70 000 drams if non-certified seeds are planted.

Kerobyan said also that this program is a good example of decentralization because it is to be implemented by the communities, which will be paid for monitoring its implementation. ($1 - 405.78 drams) -0-
