Prosecutor held in KZN drug raid
A police raid of a Bluff prosecutor’s flat led to her arrest for the possession of drugs.
|||Durban - A police raid of a Bluff prosecutor’s flat early on Wednesday led to her arrest for the possession of drugs.
Gail Greyling appeared briefly before Durban Regional Court magistrate, Logan Perumal, on Wednesday afternoon and was released on a warning.
The young prosecutor, who works predominately in the Wentworth Magistrate’s Court, stood nervously in the accused dock and wiped away tears with a tissue she grasped tightly.
It is believed the police had her home address because of an investigation into a different matter which led to the raid on Wednesday where she was apparently found in the possession of one gram of cocaine.
The State did not oppose bail and said she could be released on a warning if the court agreed.
When her rights were explained to her, she replied in almost a whisper to the court that she would obtain a private attorney.
The court heard that an attorney was not present because her handbag containing her cellphone, wallet and car keys were stolen during the police raid.
The matter was adjourned until December.
