YEREVAN, October 5. / ARKA /. Armenia is actively involved in various international peacekeeping operations, defense minister Seyran Ohanyan said today at the annual International Forum for the Challenges of Peace Operations that kicked off in Yerevan.

The international gathering has brought to the Armenian capital city policymakers, practitioners and experts from more than a dozen of countries. The Challenges Forum is a global network of partners representing 47 peace operations organizations and departments from 22 countries, including the five permanent members of the UN.

"Today, when international security is facing new challenges because of  a sharp rise in tensions, peacemaking becomes of  particular importance. It is no secret that the world is becoming increasingly interconnected, fueled by technological advances, transparent borders, freedom of movement and the ongoing process of globalization. Instability in one particular region influences and presents new challenges to the entire world," Ohanyan said.

The Yerevan conference will last for two days. Some 58 representatives from 16 countries will discuss the current challenges of international peacekeeping. The event is co-organized by the Institute for National Strategic Studies of Armenian defense ministry.-0-
