Cape Town - A night out ended in tragedy for two brothers who were shot dead outside a popular drinking spot in Khayelitsha on Saturday night.

The brothers, aged 28 and 32, were shot outside Rands just off Spine Road. They have not yet been identified.

The management of the establishment commented on the “unfortunate event” in a Facebook post.

“We deeply sympathise with those affected. We’re working very close with those involved and have extended our support to their family and friends.”

They added that business would carry on as usual and they would continue to ensure safety while ensuring “high standards of entertainment”.

A Rands patron, who asked not to be named, said she witnessed a fight inside the premises which later moved outside. “I only saw the bodies when we were leaving. They were shot outside in the parking lot of Rands. There were two ambulances and police vans outside.”

Police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that a murder case had been opened.

“The two brothers were fatally wounded after an alleged argument.”

He added that the incident took place at 9.30pm on Saturday.

Some patrons, responding to Rands management’s Facebook post, commented that it was insensitive to carry on with business as usual.

Bulelwa Landingwe said: “This is so not on. You can’t put it as if nothing happened when two people died in your parking area and you say it was near. This is very cruel and insensitive.”

Rands has been in operation since August. The Cape Argus contacted the establishment, but the management refused to comment.
