Armenian nuclear power plant reconnected to power grid after planned maintenance

The Armenian nuclear power plant is reconnected to the power system of the country after the annual planned preventive maintenance, the facility said in a press release.

YEREVAN, June 24. /ARKA/. The Armenian nuclear power plant is reconnected to the power system of the country after the annual planned preventive maintenance, the facility said in a press release.

"On June 23, 2022 at 13:00, It said the 4th and 3rd turbo-generators were reconnected to the unified energy system of Armenia on June 23, 2022.

According to the original plan, the plant was to be reconnected on June 27, 2022, however due to the effective work of the personnel it was done 4 days earlier, the facility said.

The plant is currently operating in normal mode, at 380 MW, in compliance with safety and reliability standards.

The Armenian NPP is located some 30 kilometers west of Yerevan. It was built in the 1970s but was closed following a devastating earthquake in 1988. One of its two VVER 440-V230 light-water reactors was reactivated in 1995. 

In March 2014, the Armenian government decided to extend the plant’s service life up to 2026. The service life extension was financed by $270 million Russian loan and a $30 million grant.  -0-
