YEREVAN, October 1, / ARKA /. A member (minister) of the Eurasian Economic Commission's (EEC) Board Robert Harutyunyan and representatives of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (Employers) of Armenia discussed in Yerevan the problems that hamper Armenian business community to carry out economic activity within the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

The discussion took place at a round table on the barriers and limitations in mutual trade among the members of the Eurasian Economic Union, the Eurasian Economic Commission said.

"The Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (Employers) of Armenia has always had a significant impact on the economic development of the Republic of Armenia, and at this stage it can play a very important role in increasing the trade turnover between Armenia and other members of EEU,' Robert Harutyunyan said, adding that Armenian entrepreneurs are still facing a set obstacles and difficulties in trading within EEU.

Arsen Ghazaryan, the chairman of Union, noted the special importance of the discussion as a platform for the local business community to voice the problems they face and to discuss the mechanisms to address them. He also stressed the importance of cooperation of the Union with the Eurasian Economic Commission.

It was noted that one of the major barriers in exports of goods from Russia is the double taxation. Russian companies include VAT in the price of goods and although this issue has been voiced repeatedly, it still remains unresolved.

Another major barrier to the export of Armenian goods to Russia and other countries of the Eurasian Economic Union is the instability of the national currencies against the US dollar.

Roundtable participants agreed to conduct joint meetings together with representatives of the Eurasian Economic Commission to look for answers to problems that  hinder their businesses. -0-
