Child welfare agency working with Alex Gervais has troubled past

Officials at a troubled aboriginal child welfare agency regret their role in the death of foster youth Alex Gervais, who they insist was learning to become an independent young adult while living in a hotel, an agency founder said. “The agency was working with young Mr. Gervais trying to find a way of helping (him) to be prepared for being an independent 19 year old. Did their efforts succeed? Clearly not,” said Grand Chief Doug Kelly of the Sto:lo Tribal Council.
