British Columbia, for those who missed their local history lesson, has long been home to a lively culture of protest, of celebrated rabble-rousing in the name of just causes, be it riotous clashes over the preservation of old-growth forests or quiet efforts to save the Vancouver Island marmot. As far back as the 1930s, Vancouverites rioted in the streets and marched in support of the plight of the unemployed in relief camps.
