Durban - A four-year-old child who fell from the third floor on to a concrete slab on the first floor of a Durban CBD flat last night was rushed to hospital.

It is not clear how the boy fell from a window of his parents’ flat in Dr Pixley KaSeme (West) Street, near Mahatma Gandhi (Point) Road, at about 6pm. The window in the block of flats, Kenton, faces away from the street.

When the Daily News arrived, the child’s mother had just arrived home and was too distraught to speak.

A friend of the supervisor of the building said the boy’s father was beside himself after seeing what had happened to his son.

He left in an ambulance with the child.

Loyisi Lindi, the supervisor of the

building, said: “I was checking my e-mails downstairs when I heard a loud bang. But I did not pay attention to it. Then people came and told me a child had fallen.” He rushed to the first floor and saw that the child was quiet, but still breathing.

A visibly shaken Lindi said he called for an ambulance.

He said he often saw the child and was well acquainted with the father.

A resident, Mike Bloxham, said people became hysterical when they saw the boy was bleeding.
