Agricultural market volatility 'here to stay'

SPECIAL REPORT / The farmers' protests that hit Europe over the summer and paralysed Brussels on 7 September are the result of agriculture price volatility, which experts say "is here to stay". EurActiv Italy reports.
According to the European Commission's Milk Market Observatory, dairy farmers formed the majority of the protestors, due to a collapse in farm gate prices, which since last year have fallen from 40 to 30 cents per litre on average, losing 25% in value.
