KwaZulu-Natal - The African National Congress Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal (ANCYLKZN) on Friday congratulated the South African Students’ Congress’ (SASCO) victory at the recent Student Representative Elections at Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT).

As the student ally of the country’s ruling party the ANC, SACSO’s win is regarded a victory for the political party.

“This landslide victory at MUT is yet another clear indication that the African National Congress youth arms still remain the trusted champions of young people’s interests,” said ANCYLKZN secretary Thanuxolo Sabela.

The SRC elections held at MUT on Thursday, rendered 2870 votes for SASCO whilst the Economic Freedom Fighters’ student committee received just over 200 votes and the Democratic Alliance 70 votes.

“We are humbled by their unwavering support and the victory will certainly ensure that issues affecting students at MUT are dealt,” said Sabela.

“We have no doubt that SASCO will continue leading campaigns of ensuring that education is accessible to all the students as espoused by the Freedom Charter.”

Sabela also took a swipe at the National Freedom Party’s NASMO which received 43 votes.

“[It] is a clear vote of no confidence in parties which do not represent the interests of the majority of South Africans,” he said.
