Natural gas price for consumers in Armenia to be left unchanged

YEREVAN, September 17. /ARKA/. The natural gas price for domestic consumers will be left unchanged, Armenian Energy and Natural Resources Minister Yervand Zakaryan said Wednesday at the National Assembly’s Q&A session.

“In accordance with the arrangement made by Armenian and Russian governments, the border price for Russia’s natural gas was set at $165 per 1,000 cubic meters, and the decision was made for a period between January 1, 2015 and January 1, 2016,” he said.

In his words, this will have no impacts on the domestic consumer price in Armenia.

Zakaryan said that the two countries’ governments, taking into account the major losses Gazprom Armenia has sustained because of fluctuations in foreign exchange rates and spending on necessary work and operational expenses, decided to leave the difference of $24 to the company.

A protocol was signed on September 7 in Moscow that downs the basic price for the natural gas imported into Armenia from Russia from $189 to $165 per 1,000 cubic meters.

Earlier, in his interview with Golos Armenii, Gazprom Armneia CEO Vardan Harutyunyan said that the new price for the Russian gas for Armenia allow the company to offset these losses.

He said that Armenia benefited a great deal from the decision that leaves domestic consumer price for gas unchanged.

Gazprom Armenia CJSC, fully owned by Russia’s Gazprom, is the sole distributor of natural gas in Armenia. ---0---
