Armenia’s government budget deficit is manageable and inflation controllable

YEREVAN, September 16. /ARKA/. Armenia's government budget deficit is manageable, David Dole, Asian Development Bank Resident Representatives in Armenia told journalists on Wednesday.

In his opinion, Armenia has quite good indicators in terms of macroeconomic manageability - inflation and the ratio of the state debt to GDP are controllable and budget deficit is manageable.

But it doesn't mean that things are ideal, he said, but the Asian Development Bank is cooperating with the Armenian government also for improving investment environment.

Dole said that the Asian Development Bank plans to implement programs spurring investments in Armenia, introduction of new technologies and development of industries.

According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, the budget deficit amounted to AMD 52 billion in the first half of this year.

The ratio of budget deficit to GDP was 2% in 2014. Budget deficit is projected at AMD 114 billion and the deficit-GDP ratio at 2.34%.

Average inflation in Armenia stood at 4.8% in Jan-Aug and a 12-month inflation at 3.6%.

In the government budget for 2015, inflation is projected at 4% (±1.5%).

Armenia joined the Asian Development Bank in 2005. The bank's investments in Armenia's private sector totaled $133 million as of April 2014. ----0----
