Three dead as bakkie hits tree

Three people died and several others were injured when a bakkie veered off the N3 at Hilton and hit a tree, KZN paramedics said.

Durban – Three people died and several others were injured in a crash on the N3 at Hilton on Sunday morning, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.

Reports from the scene indicated that a single cab bakkie veered off the road for about 100 metres before hitting a tree, Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said in a statement.

“Netcare 911 paramedics, the fire services, and several other services arrived at the scene and found that six people were still trapped in the twisted frame of the vehicle.

Three had died due to the extensive injuries they sustained. The other three had sustained life-threatening injuries. About 24 other people sustained injuries ranging from serious to minor, Botha said.
