Durban - The lawyers of grenade attack accused, Joel Mahoase, did not turn up on time for his bail application hearing in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Mahoase told the magistrate, Vanitha Armu, that his lawyers informed him they would only be available at 3pm. The matter was stood down.

He wore a grey suit, white shirt and red tie.

Mahoase has been charged with murder, attempted murder and the unlawful possession of explosives. It is alleged he threw two M26 grenades into the kitchen of his eManzimtoti home where his wife, Lesego, was standing during an argument. The explosion killed her. She was a member of the SA Air Force at the military base on the Bluff.

After nearly a week on the run Mahoase, a former Umkhonto we Sizwe member and a former colonel in the SA Air Force, handed himself over to the eManzimtoti police.
