|||Cape Town - A three-month-old baby was one of three victims of a fire in Vrygrond in Muizenberg on Thursday night.
A woman and another child were also killed in the blaze, which broke out in an informal structure, city council fire and rescue spokesman Theo Layne said on Friday morning.
“An informal structure was burnt last night at about 11.10pm killing one adult female and two children with the youngest being three months old.”
A man was also admitted to hospital with burns on his arms and legs.
The structure, built in another resident’s backyard, was the only home damaged in the blaze, Layne said.
A second deadly fire broke out in the early hours of Friday morning in Lentegeur.
Layne said a formal structure in Lentegeur caught fire around 3.10am and one man died as a result of smoke inhalation.
The causes of the two fires have not yet been determined, and both incidents have been handed over to the police, he said.
Police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that a 36-year-old man suffered burns inside his room in Maartblom Street, Lentegeur, at about 3.40am Friday morning, and died at the scene. An inquest docket had been opened for investigation.
