Prices for potatoes and vegetables in Armenia increased by 11.8% in August 2015
YEREVAN, September 11. /ARKA/. Prices for potatoes and vegetables in Armenia leapt 11.8% in August 2015, compared with the previous month, Gurgen Martirosyan, chief of the National Statistical Service's international comparison and prices, told journalists on Friday.
«The year-on-year consumer price index stood at 103.6%,» he said. «Prices for foods rose 2.9%, for nonfoods 6.5% and for services 1.4%.»
Martirosyan said that after the 2.5% price rise recorded in January, consumer prices were going down from February to July.
In particular, average monthly decrease in prices recorded at 0.1-0.5% in the first four months of this year was followed by more significant fall in June and July – 1.4% and 2.2% respectively.
The Feb-July average decrease was recorded at 4.6%. Prices went 0.1% up in August, In Jan-Aug 2015, compared with December 2014, consumer prices fell 2.1%.
In August, compared with July, foods and nonfoods slid 0.3% each category, while services went 0.1% up.
Of 13 categories of foods 7 became cheaper, 4 more expensive and 2 remained unchanged in August, compared with the previous month.
The most significant decrease was recorded in August – eggs sank 5.5%, fruits dived 5.1%, sugar shed 2.3%, coffee, tea and cocoa slipped 0.4% and dairy products slid 1%.
Meat rose 0.3%, other foods 0.1%, soft drinks 2.9% and alcoholic drinks and cigarettes 0.1%.
In August 2015, compared with December 2014, foods fell 7%, while nonfoods rose 3% and services 1.1%.
The Jan-Aug 2015 year-on-year consumer price index was 104.8%. Prices for foods rose 5.2%, for nonfoods 5.9% and for services 3.4%.
Martirosyan said that in five cities consumer prices rose 0.1-0.3% with the highest increase in Ijevan.
In Yerevan they rose 0.2% and in four cities they slid 0.6-0.1%. In two cities consumer prices remained unchanged. ---0----
