Bulgaria Launches Section of Struma Motorway Between Sandanski, Greek Border

Lot 4 of Struma motorway between the Bulgarian town of Sandanski and the Kulata border checkpoint at the frontier with Greece will be officially launched on Thursday.

The project has been co-funded under the Transport Operational Programme 2007-2013.

The official ceremony will be attended by the head and members of the management board of the Road Infrastructure Agency (API) as well as the district governor of Blagoevgrad.

The new section has a length of 14.7 kilometres and its estimated cost of construction is BGN 67 M.

The total planned length of Struma motorway is 150 kilometres, with EU funding having been provided for 68.96 kilometres of the motorway.

The fully completed sections are lot 1 between the village of Dolna Dikanya and the town of Dupnitsa and lot 4.

Lot 2 between the towns of Dupnitsa and Blagoevgrad is in the process of completion.

The motorway is part of Pan-European Corridor IV.
