Durban - A father who allegedly stabbed his 34-year-old son to death in KwaMashu, north of Durban, is on the run.

It is alleged that Sabelo Ndwandwe was stabbed by his father at their KwaMashu F-section home on Saturday morning when he had been barred by his father from taking his bank card to buy alcohol.

A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said Ndwandwe had been drinking with friends in the township.

“He went home to get his card,” she said. “When he got home the father was sleeping and the son was making a racket, so he asked him to go to sleep because he was drunk, but he did not listen,” she said.

A scuffle ensued, leading to the father stabbing his son to death, apparently by accident.

Ndwandwe’s mother, Ntokozo Mlambo, said on Monday she was very “confused” by the ordeal and was too distraught to speak.

She said she would speak at a later stage when her mind was clear.

Provincial police spokesman, Major Thulani Zwane, confirmed that police were investigating a murder case.

“The motive of the killing is unknown,” he said.

Zwane said no arrest had been made.
