Baku didn’t announce exercises in advance
“The international arms control treaties, particularly within the OSCE, that Armenia and Azerbaijan have joined, envisage mechanisms of control over exercises.
Despite the fact that “Shant” and upcoming “Indestructible Brotherhood” exercises do not exceed the standards mentioned in the Vienna Document of 2011, they have been announced in accord with the OSCE procedures to ensure transparency and mutual trust. As for the exercises conducted in Azerbaijan, judging from the published figures, they should have been announced in advance which hasn’t been done”, said Davit Tonoyan answering to the question of Zinuzh TV program.
On September 7, Davit Tonoyan met with Acting Head of EU Delegation to Armenia Dirk Lorenz and newly appointed Political Officer Andrea Chalupova.
He informed about “Shant-2015” strategic command and staff exercises held in Armenia on September 3-6.
The First Deputy Defence Minister of Armenia also detailed on the situation and incidents on Armenia-Azerbaijan state border and Karabakh-Azerbaijan contact line.
Davit Tonoyan has expressed the concern over frequency of the ceasefire violations and use of large-calibre weapons.
