Agrarian and Peasant Union plans to open store in Yerevan to sell only genuine dairy products
YEREVAN, September 8. / ARKA /. Armenian Agrarian and Peasant Union plans to open a store in the capital city of Yerevan that will be selling only genuine dairy products produced by local farms.
Speaking at a news conference today, the head of the union, Hrachya Berberyan, said the purchase price for natural milk produced by farmers fell to 100-110 drams per one liter, but despite this dramatic drop some companies delay payments and besides, it had no effect on retail prices which remain the same.
Berberyan also argued that dairy firms add milk powder into finished products, which reduces the cost of production, but does not lead to a decrease in its retail price. He also expressed concern that Belarusian dairy products which have appeared in the local market may push local producers out from the market.
He argued that opening of a store in Yerevan that will sell genuine dairy products may help resolve partly the problem.
He said the union is already in talks with a large company that can provide financial support to the project, which if proves successful, can be extended across the country.
According to the National Statistical Service, milk production in Armenia in the first seven months of 2015 increased by 5.2% from the year before to 308.7 million liters. -0-
