Saturday's Letters: Don't give up on abused kids

In my last year of high school, my father told me I was too stupid to get into university. He was slurring his words and could barely stand as he gave me his fatherly permission to drop out of school. He said he’d get me a job working in the kitchen. This angered me and drove me to succeed.
