Yerevan to host CIS railway transport council’s meeting

YEREVAN, September 4. / ARKA /. A meeting of the Commission of the Railway Transport Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will be held in Yerevan on September 8, the press service of the South-Caucasus Railway said today. It said also that the meeting will discuss a string of  rail transport safety issues. 

The meeting will be attended by representatives of railway administrations from Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Estonia.

The main tasks of the Commission are the formation of a common policy in the field of traffic safety in international rail transport, coordination in matters of safety and  preparation of proposals to improve safety on the railways.

The South Caucasus Railways, operating Armenia’s railroads is run by Russian Railways. The concessional agreement was concluded in 2008 for 30 years, with a right of extension for another 20 years after the first 20 years of operation. -0-
