YEREVAN, September 4. /ARKA/.The Yerevan Brandy Company (YBC) plans to purchase 35,000 metric tons of grapes this year, despite adverse financial conditions, the company said in a press release. The French-owned company has earmarked more than 5 billion drams to that end.

It will start buying grapes on September 7 in Armavir region; on September 8 purchases will begin in Aygavan branch in Ararat region and on September 14 YBC’s  branch in Berd in Tavush region will start purchases.

The price for 1 kg of grapes is set at 150 drams for branches in Armavir and Aygavan and 140 drams for the branch in Tavush region. The money will be paid to farmers within 3-4 days after the purchase.
Each grape grower, who has a contract with YBC, is informed in advance about the day, time and the amount of grape the company will buy from him.

This year the company continued its program of providing farmers with interest-free loans worth 250 million drams for purchase of fertilizers. Winegrowers cooperating with YBC can receive all the necessary fertilizers, with the right to repay the debt during the purchase period.

The press release says also that this year the Yerevan Brandy Company plans to commission a new chamber at the distillation shop, already equipped with three sets of distillers. Their number is expected to increase to 8 soon. The devices were manufactured by the French Chalvignac Group, which has 100 years of experience in this area. The total investment for this project amounted to 1.635 billion drams. Work on the new distillation shop will begin on November 1.

At the moment, the new devices are not intended to replace, but to supplement the existing distillation capacity, the company said.

Yerevan Brandy Company, the exclusive producer of ARARAT Brandies is the direct successor of Armenian brandy-making traditions, established in 1887.  It is the biggest taxpayer of the field and the biggest grape buyer.
