Watch: New ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Teaser Is Brief, But Explosive, Visceral & Intense

There’s no need to speculate further. As we guessed/hoped in our Cannes wish-list piece, “Mad Max: Fury Road” will make its world premiere at Cannes. But it won’t play in competition, and despite being the subject of the first official Cannes announcement, it won’t be the opening night film either. If we’re gonna split hairs about the announcement: is this a good sign? Another thing to consider: ‘Fury Road’ at Cannes isn’t exactly that special. It premieres on the Croisette on May 14th and then it goes wide in theaters across most of the world the next day, so Cannes has all of 24 hours before the rest of the world sees the film. Drilling down deeper, this means press in New York and L.A., probably the U.K. and other territories will have seen the movie in advance anyhow. Will embargoes even hold before the movie screens in France? Does the world premiere butted up next to regular release mean much? Decide for yourself.
