Golden Boy Promotions And Virgil Ortiz Jr Will Go To Arbitration
By Gabriel F. Cordero
It has been learned that Nevada District Judge Cristina Silva issued a ruling earlier this week granting Golden Boy Promotions the opportunity to request arbitration in its legal dispute with Virgil Ortiz Jr.
Information from the Nevada District Court indicates that Virgil Ortiz Jr. and his manager, Rick Mirigian, are prohibited from negotiating or seeking contracts for future fights until the legal dispute between the parties is resolved.
Virgil Ortiz Jr., along with Matchroom Boxing and DAZN, is scheduled to face world champion Jaron Ennis in 2026. At the beginning of 2026, Ortiz’s legal team filed a lawsuit against Golden Boy Promotions. However, Golden Boy has since obtained a temporary restraining order preventing Ortiz from working with other boxing promoters.
Ortiz had a three-year contract with Golden Boy that was set to expire in May 2024. One of the central issues in the dispute is whether Golden Boy Promotions would continue its television deal with DAZN.
