Developer to convert 2 more Fort Monroe buildings into apartments
HAMPTON — The Fort Monroe Authority announced Wednesday it will convert two more historic buildings into apartments as part of broader efforts to address a housing shortage in the region. Fort Monroe’s nearly 68,000-square-foot Post Hospital hasn’t changed since the U.S. Army left in 2011. Office chairs sit stained and vacant. Chipped paint that’s fallen off walls covers the floor. But that building, plus the roughly 17,000-square-foot Old Arsenal Building next door, will be converted into a total of 85 market rate apartments.
