Lynwood girls basketball cruises to playoff win with an added highlight

LYNWOOD — Senior point guard Shanilah Ewing made her mark on the Lynwood girls basketball team before even joining the roster. As an eighth-grader, she filmed games for coach Ellis Barfield. “She’s been a leader before she touched down on campus here,” Barfield said. “She used to talk in the background (of the videos) and she would be talking just like a coach, pointing out little things, and I was really amazed by that.” After the Knights finished off their 71-31 win over El Toro on Thursday in the opening round of the CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoffs, Barfield and Ewing’s teammates showered her with a surprise postgame tribute for her contributions.
