Kapil Sharma cafe attack: SFJ chief Pannun warns comedian post Canada cafe attack, says 'Take your bloody money...'
Comedian Kapil Sharma's cafe in British Columbia, Canada, was recently attacked in what officials think was a targeted strike by the outlawed Khalistani terrorist organisation Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). Meanwhile, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a pro-Khalistani separatist, allegedly threatened the comedian again a few days after the assault. The cafe, called Kap's Cafe, recently celebrated a soft opening, attracting attention with its sophisticated pink-and-white decor, flower accents, and menu of handcrafted coffee and pastries. On late Friday night, shots were fired on the premises with no casualties reported.
What was Pannun's video message to Kapil Sharma?
Pannun, the leader of the Khalistani group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), stated in a video message that Kapil Sharma was pushing Hindutva under the guise of conducting business in Canada and that the nation would not tolerate the development of such ideologies within its borders. "Canada is not your playground. Take your blood money back to Hindustan. Canada will not allow violent Hindutva ideology to take root on Canadian soil under the guise of business," he said in his message to Sharma.
A comedy venue or part of a larger conspiracy: Pannun
Pannun further questioned whether Kap's Cafe was "just a comedy venue or part of a larger conspiracy to export Hindutva". Notably, the SFJ, which is banned in India, released a menacing video asking Kapil Sharma to "take Hindutva money back to India."
BKI operative behind Kap's Cafe attack?
In a video message, Harjit Singh Laddi, a BKI operative who India has classified as a terrorist, took responsibility for the attack on Kapil Sharma's cafe. The seriousness of Laddi's alleged involvement in cross-border terrorist operations is highlighted by the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) announcement of a Rs 10 lakh reward for information leading to his arrest.
What Kap's Cafe said on Instagram after attack?
The cafe issued a statement on their Instagram account following the startling incident. They wrote, "We opened Kap's Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking. We are processing this shock but we are not giving up (sic)."
