Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd (SAVWIPL) has commenced production of the highly anticipated Škoda Kylaq at its Chakan manufacturing facility, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s strategy for the Indian market. The Škoda Kylaq is the fifth model to be developed on the MQB-A0-IN platform, emphasizing the company’s commitment to localization and innovation in line with the government’s “Make in India” initiative.

Expanding Manufacturing Capacity

To accommodate the production of the Kylaq, SAVWIPL has increased its manufacturing capacity by 30%, enabling an annual output of 255,000 units. The production line now operates at an impressive rate of 40 jobs per hour (JPH), reflecting enhanced operational efficiency. This development not only underscores the company’s focus on advanced manufacturing processes but also supports the rising demand for compact SUVs in India.

Sustainable Design Philosophy

The Škoda Kylaq embodies a blend of global design principles and eco-friendly practices. The use of bamboo fiber in the interior highlights Škoda’s dedication to sustainability. The model also prioritizes safety, comfort, and quality, further aligning with the brand’s core pillars. These features are designed to meet the evolving preferences of Indian customers while adhering to international standards.

Positive Market Reception

The Kylaq has garnered considerable attention since its World Premiere and Covered Drive events. Priced attractively at ₹7.89 lakh (ex-showroom), the compact SUV is poised to redefine the sub-4-meter segment with its robust engineering, innovative features, and high safety standards. Deliveries are set to begin in January 2025, with the vehicle already generating strong demand among potential buyers.

Expanding Network for Enhanced Support

In response to its growing customer base, SAVWIPL plans to expand its sales and service network to 350 locations by 2025, focusing on Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. This expansion aims to provide better accessibility and support for customers across India.

Statements from Leadership

Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of SAVWIPL, emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering products that resonate with Indian customers. Andreas Dick, Member of the Board for Production and Logistics at Škoda Auto, highlighted the meticulous planning and collaboration between teams in India and the Czech Republic that brought the Kylaq to life.

With its focus on localized production, advanced technology, and sustainability, the Škoda Kylaq is set to make a significant impact in India’s competitive compact SUV market, strengthening Škoda’s position in the region.
