Shahid Kapoor's popularity went soaring high after Kabir Singh. He appeared in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's movie Kabir Singh along with Kiara Advani. The film was loved by the masses and it was a massive hit. However, a major debate followed the film's release. His character was called misogynist and the makers were blamed for promoting toxic masculinity. Many called out director Sandeep Reddy Vanga for the same. Now, years after the release of the film, Shahid Kapoor has spoken about his infamous character.

Shahid Kapoor comments on his Kabir Singh character

In an interview with Faye D'souza that has now made headlines in entertainment news, Shahid Kapoor made comments about his character and mentioned that such men do exist in society. He shared that even though he would not 'accept' quite a few things done by Kabir Singh but there are people who do and girls fall in love with such characters. Kabir Singh shared that movies cannot be made without addressing what is happening in life. Then he gave out a strong statement sharing that he would not accept a guy like Kabir Singh but there are girls who fall in love with such guys. His quote read, "I don't think a lot of things that Kabir did was acceptable at all. I would not accept a guy like that. But do guys like that exist? Do girls like that fall in love with guys like that? Yes they do! So why can't we make a movie about it? You walk away, you decide what you like what you don't like. That's really upto you, as an audience."

Despite all the controversy around it, Kabir Singh turned out to be the highest grossing movie of 2019. As per the reports, Kabir Singh was the first A-certified film of India to have made more than R 200 crore at the box office thanks to the buzz. The songs of the film also got highly popular. Kabir Singh was the remake of movie Arjun Reddy that starred Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey in the leading roles.
