Maruti Suzuki Dzire Scores 5 Stars at G-NCAP

0

In a significant development for safety standards in India’s automotive market, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire has achieved a 5-star rating in Global NCAP’s crash tests for 2024. This marks a notable milestone, as it is the first Maruti model to receive a top-tier safety rating in the rigorous testing regimen of the Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP), which assesses vehicle safety performance for various markets.

Details of the Test

The latest-generation Dzire scored an impressive 31.24 points out of 34 for adult occupant protection and 39.20 out of 49 for child occupant safety. This rating was granted following stringent evaluations that included frontal and side impact tests, along with assessments for pedestrian protection and electronic stability control (ESC). In the frontal impact test, the Dzire demonstrated stable structural integrity and a well-fortified footwell area, with the bodyshell able to withstand further impacts.

Adult Safety

For adult occupants, the Dzire provided high levels of safety, offering good protection for both head and neck areas, with adequate protection to the passenger’s chest and marginal protection for the driver’s chest. The knees and tibias of both front occupants showed effective protection, affirming the vehicle’s stability and solid build. The side impact tests revealed strong protective measures as well, with the head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis scoring well for impact absorption. Even in the side pole impact test, the Dzire’s design showed good protection for the head and pelvis, though chest protection was rated marginal

Child Safety

For child occupant protection, Global NCAP tests simulated scenarios for both 3-year-old and 18-month-old dummies. The Dzire’s child restraint systems offered good protection, preventing excessive head movement in a frontal impact and providing full protection in side impacts. The child seat for the 3-year-old dummy prevented excessive forward movement, while the seat for the 18-month-old dummy limited head exposure during testing

Previous Test and Improvement

Historically, Maruti Suzuki models have struggled in independent crash testing. The prior generation of the Dzire, for instance, scored only a 2-star rating, lacking adequate stability in its bodyshell and overall structural integrity. The 2024 Dzire’s 5-star achievement reflects both enhanced design and a shift towards prioritizing safety in budget-friendly sedans in the Indian market. It also aligns with India’s growing focus on vehicle safety, with new standards and regulations pushing for improved safety measures across all vehicle segments.
