Lavrov:  A rushed peace deal without fully understanding the  positions of Baku and Yerevan, as well as the on- the- ground  realities, will not lead to anything good

ArmInfo.Moscow welcomes the significant progress achieved within the framework of the Azerbaijani-Armenian peace process. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made this statement in an interview with MIA "Russia Today", in response to inquiries about why Armenia and Azerbaijan have not yet reached a consensus on a peace treaty.

According to him, given the long-standing hostility, military actions, and casualties on both sides, Moscow understands how challenging it is for Baku and Yerevan to make progress in normalization.  Lavrov is confident that achieving this will not only require significant efforts from both parties in finding mutually acceptable solutions, but also time.

"For this reason, unlike Western pseudo-mediators, we are not pressuring our partners to quickly finalize a peace treaty. We believe that a hasty peace without a comprehensive consideration of the positions of Baku and Yerevan, as well as the realities on the ground, will not yield positive results; on the contrary, it may create additional risks of tension and potential escalation of the conflict. Russia is committed to achieving lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus," he added.
