Armenian weightlifters win three gold medals at European Championship
ArmInfo. The Armenian national weightlifting team won three gold medals at the European Junior (U20) and Youth (U23) Weightlifting Championships held in Poland.
As reported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (MECS) of Armenia, member of the women's team Alexandra Grigoryan (55 kg) won the title of winner of the European U20 Championships, becoming the owner of the gold medal with a result of 200 kg in the combined event. In the snatch, she successfully completed two approaches, holding barbells weighing 81 and 85 kg over her head, and in the clean and jerk - 105 and 115 kg. "Armenia's representative in the 55 kg junior weight category Zhora Grigoryan also won a gold medal, showing a result of 233 kg in the combined event. In the snatch, he lifted 100 and 103 kg in two successful approaches, and in the clean and jerk, he lifted a barbell weighing 126 and 130 kg," the Armenian MESKS said in a statement.
Another Armenian weightlifter, Garnik Cholakyan (61 kg), became the winner of the European Championship among young men under 23. In the combined event, he showed a result of 275 kg (125 + 150 kg).
During the championship, the Armenian team also won a silver medal. Its winner was Armenia's representative in the 61 kg junior weight category Rafik Minasyan, showing a result of 264 kg in the combined event (119 + 145 kg). According to the information, the European Junior (U20) and Youth (U23) Weightlifting Championships will last until November 2.
