No planned changes to Armenian-Russian Agreement on Status of Russian Border Troops after decision to withdraw them from Agarak checkpoint - Armenian MFA
ArmInfo. There are no planned changes or revisions to the Armenian-Russian Agreement on the Status of Russian Border Troops following the decision to withdraw Russian border troops from the Agarak checkpoint, as reported by the Armenian Foreign Ministry in response to a request from Radio Liberty.
"The agreement reached regarding the full performance of service at the checkpoint of the Armenia-Iran state border by the border troops of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, as well as their participation in protecting the Armenia-Iran and Armenia-Turkey state borders, does not allow for any changes or revisions to be made to the agreement," the response of the department states.
"In early October, after a half-hour meeting between Pashinyan and Putin in Moscow, Yerevan announced that, in accordance with the agreement reached, Russian border guards would leave the Agarak checkpoint. Starting from January 1, only Armenian border guards would be in control there. Meanwhile, paragraph 6 of the Armenian-Russian treaty signed in 1992 states: "Russian border troops carry out the passage of people, vehicles, cargo, goods and other items through checkpoints located on the border of Armenia with Turkey and Iran." According to the agreement reached between Yerevan and Moscow, Article 6 of the treaty ceases to act," the source notes.
